The government has declared two days of the upcoming week as public holidays.
In a publication on Sunday, the President’s Office revealed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s decision to declare April 11 and April 12 as public holidays.
The President’s Office revealed that Sunday has been declared a public holiday to accommodate the large number of civil servants who will be involved in the management of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections slated for upcoming Saturday.
Further, the day before the first day of Ramadan 1442, Monday has also been declared a public holiday.
The elections as well as Ramadan 1442 falls at a time the country is driving through an overwhelming third peak of the global Covid-19 pandemic, which began sweeping across the globe in December 2019. However, daily infections being reported of recent have been declining across the capital region, which in turn led to measures being eased across the region. As such, a nearly six-hour curfew imposed across the region and a ban on vehicle movement from 6pm to 6am were also dissolved.
Ramadan 1442 is expected to begin on April 13.
