Projects to develop water and sewerage networks in five northern islands of the Maldives have been inaugurated.
These projects are being conducted under the initiative by Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to develop water and sewerage networks in 20 islands of the Maldives. In January, HDh. Kumundhoo became the first island where the project was launched, which also represents the most expensive project assigned to MWSC by the Maldivian government.
The project was first assigned to MWSC after the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure had completed the required surveys and environmental assessments, in addition to designing the network. MWSC was first assigned the project in November 2018, and has 18 months to complete development, which is estimated to be worth MVR 103 million.
In addition to this, work has begun to establish water and sewerage networks in four more islands of Haa Alif atoll. After the prerequisite assessments by the Ministry of Planning, MWSC was assigned to develop the HA. Thankandhoo, HA. Vashafaru, Ha. Maarandhoo and HA. Muraidhoo water and sewerage network on 14 December 2020. The Thankandhoo, Vashafaru and Maarandhoo projects were assigned with 7 June 2022 as a deadline for MWSC to finish developing water and sewerage networks on the islands.
The deadline for MWSC to complete the HA. Muraidhoo water and sewerage network project is 9 March 2022.
