Felivaru industrial island, where a fish processing plant is located, has seen the island's Covid-19 cluster grow to 294 positive cases.

The Lhaviyani Atoll Emergency Operations Center, along with Lh Felivaru Fisheries Complex's Assistant Managing Director Ibrahim Anwar, has confirmed that 750 samples were collected for testing from Felivaru. From these samples, 47 percent had tested positive for Covid-19, with 337 samples testing negative for the infection. A further 94 test results came out inconclusive, and the results of 25 samples collected from Felivaru are still pending.

Anwar stated that Felivaru had been providing medical attention to all those who had tested positive for Covid-19 on the island. He also noted that Felivaru was working with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) to transport high-risk cases to the Baa Atoll Covid-Management Facility. He added that 13 such patients had already been transported to the facility, and that they had not been transported in critical condition, but as a precautionary measure as they were at a greater risk of complications from Covid-19.

While 605 employees currently work at the Lh Felivaru Fisheries Complex, 270 of this number are Maldivian nationals. 163 Maldivian employees at Felivaru are native to islands outside Lhaviyani atoll.

The first cases of Covid-19 were detected on Felivaru island in early March. The cluster of infections from the island has since grown to worrying degrees, with some islands having been placed under monitoring with due to the discovery of positive cases linked to the Felivaru Covid-19 cluster.
