300 new cases of Covid-19 were reported across the Maldives on Thursday, with an additional 127 recoveries confirmed from the infection nationwide.

94 of the 300 new cases reported Thursday were from the Male' area, with 96 additional cases reported from inhabited islands, and 15 new cases from operational resorts. A further 95 new cases were detected from industrial islands.

Health authorities tested a total of 3,625 samples for the infection between Wednesday and Thursday.

This is the highest number of daily new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Maldives since the infection first began spreading across the island nation. With Thursday's 300 new cases, the number of active cases of Covid-19 across the country have reached 3,022.

As of now, the Maldives' total Covid-19 case tally is now 24,37. By sundown on Thursday, 101 people remain admitted in hospitals for Covid-19 treatment across the country.

A further 127 recoveries from the infection were reported on Thursday, bringing the total number of recoveries observed for the infection in Maldives up to 21,282.

Covid-19 health and safety restrictions were eased across the capital of Male' on Thursday ahead of the Local Council and Women's Development Committee Elections, and the holy month of Ramazan due later in April. However, Malé City residents are still required to provide negative PCR results with a sample taken 72 hours prior to traveling to island, with special permission required for essential travel.

Health authorities continue to conduct contact tracing and sampling efforts across the country, with all the inhabited islands of Lhaviyani atoll currently under monitoring, and a sizeable Covid-19 cluster having been detected from Felivaru industrial island.

The state of public health emergency across the Maldives was extended until April 4, with authorities most recently having confirmed the 67th death from Covid-19 in Maldives on Wednesday. Most of those who have passed away after contracting the infection in Maldives are elderly persons.
