Covid-19 cases have been confirmed from all inhabited islands of Lhaviyani atoll, with the two most recent cases discovered from Lh. Kurendhoo,
Cases from Hinnavaru island, where 20 people have tested for the infection, have been linked to the Naifaru Covid-19 cluster. Hinnavaru was placed under monitoring on 27 March, after a huge Covid-19 cluster was detected from Felivaru island of the same atoll. With positive cases of Covid-19 having been detected from Kurendhoo island, Covid-19 cases have been confirmed from all inhabited islands of Lhaviyani atoll.
With over 72 positive cases confirmed from Lhaviyani atoll's most populous island of Naifaru, a team of HPA officials are currently active to prevent the infection from spreading further. Covid-19 restrictions on the island have been strengthened further, with residents of Naifaru only allowed to leave their homes for essential purposes.
The two cases detected from Kurendhoo island were from 166 samples, of which residents are still awaiting the results of 66 samples. One of the two cases from Kurendhoo island has been linked to the Naifaru Covid-19 cluster, while the other case was confirmed from random sampling. Contact tracing is now underway on Kurendhoo to identify and test samples from those who could have been exposed to Covid-19.
All inhabited islands from Lhaviyani atoll, aside from Kurendhoo, have been placed under monitoring by the Health Protection Agency until further notice.
