The island of B. Fulhadhoo has been placed under monitoring following the detection of positive Covid-19 cases.
Two tourists who were vacationing on B. Fulhadhoo are reported to have tested positive for Covid-19. Their test results were confirmed after they had departed from Fulhadhoo, from a test taken prior to them traveling. The island has since been placed under monitoring by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
HPA has confirmed that contact tracing is now underway on B. Fulhadhoo as the authority assesses the level of risk of Covid-19 transmissions on the island. As such, no persons are allowed to travel to, or from, B. Fulhadhoo until further notice. All those in B. Fulhadhoo at this time have been advised to provide their full support to authorities conducting contact tracing and sampling efforts on the island.
The B. Fulhadhoo Island Council is expected to coordinate with HPA with regards to monitoring and controlling the spread of Covid-19 on the island.
Over 23,000 positive cases of Covid-19 have been detected across the Maldives since the start of the pandemic. There has been a worrying increase in cases being detected from islands outside the capital in recent weeks, and authorities encourage all to adhere strictly to Covid-19 health and safety regulations in order to prevent the infection from spreading further.
