A man has been arrested during a drug operation in an outlying atoll.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the arrest was made in Kinbidhoo island of Thaa atoll following a tip-off.

Arrested was a 26-year-old Maldivian man who was stopped in the harbor region in the island during the operation conducted jointly by the police stationed in Veymandoo and Kinbidhoo islands as well as the police intelligence unit, on Sunday.

Officers confiscated a large rubber packet filled with suspected narcotics during the operation.

In a separate operation, officers stationed at Thulhaadhoo and Eydhafushi islands of Baa atoll had confiscated a film cannister stuffed with suspected narcotics that were being transported to Thulhaadhoo via a speedboat from capital Malé City.

The operation conducted on Saturday was provoked by an intelligence report and no arrests have been made in connection to the drug bust, yet.

Both cases are under further investigation, police confirmed.
