Officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) have confiscated a large stash of narcotics in capital Malé City’s suburban extension Hulhumalé.
The drug operation was provoked by an intelligence report received by the police institution on Monday.
Police searched a vehicle parked near Flat No. 53 in the suburbs in the operation, and confiscated 30 pieces of cellophane suspected to contain narcotic substances as well as 15 empty film cannisters filled with suspected drugs, a packet and large rubber packet stuffed with illegal narcotics.
MPS revealed that no arrests have been made in connection to the drug bust, yet, however, further investigations are underway.
This is part of the wider efforts to curb drug smuggling and trafficking in the island nation. The police institution has been regularly destroying the drugs and alcohol they confiscate during such operations, across the nation.
