A 39-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested in connection to a drug bust in Veymandoo island of Thaa atoll.

The arrest was made on Sunday, following an operation conducted by the officers of the Maldives Police Service, stationed in the island of Thaa atoll.

Officers confiscated seven rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics from the man, upon searching him following the arrest.

Further, the police institution also revealed that they confiscated suspected narcotics inside a large plastic bag that washed ashore in a sandbank in the same atoll, in a separate operation.

The operation was conducted by the police stationed at Hirilandhoo and Thimarafushi islands in the atoll.

Both cases are under further investigations, Maldives Police Service confirmed.

These operations stem from larger efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling across the island nation.
