An additional 1,108 people received Covid-19 vaccines across the Maldives on Friday, which leaves the island nation just 581 vaccinations short of reaching the 100,000-vaccinations mark.

As per the most recent statistics made public by the Health Protection Agency, a total of 1,108 vaccinations were conducted across 169 vaccination centers in atolls on Friday. No vaccinations were conducted in the Greater Male' Area for the first day of the weekend, which leaves the Maldives just 581 vaccinations short of reaching the 100,000-vaccinations mark.

With Friday's 1,108 vaccinations, a total of 29,694 persons have been vaccinated across atolls since the beginning of the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination programme in the ongoing month of February. 69, 725 persons have been vaccinated in the Male' area under the initiative thus far, and the Maldives' current vaccination total now sits at 99,419.

On Wednesday, health authorities initiated vaccination efforts for undocumented migrant workers living in the nation's capital. Vaccinations are also now open for all those over the age of 25 in the Male' area.

As of now, the Maldives has secured over a million doses of the vaccine, including 700,000 doses acquired by the government through an as-yet undisclosed agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and AstraZeneca Singapore Private Limited, in addition to doses secured by the island nation through the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC), which will be enough doses to vaccinate 20 percent of the nation's population.

The government is working to achieve their goal to vaccinate all those living in the Maldives against Covid-19, free of cost, in the coming months.
