The Parliament Committee on National Security & Foreign Relations has approved the appointment of Dr. Farahanaz Faizal as the Maldives' Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The IMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating shipping across international borders, and consists of 172 UN Member states, in addition to the Cook Islands.
Dr. Farahanaz Faizal's appointment to the IMO as Maldives' permanent representative was forwarded for parliamentary consideration in a letter by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the People's Majlis. In his letter, President Solih had requested that the parliament review her credentials and notify him of their decision regarding her appointment.
The Parliament Committee on National Security & Foreign Relations went on to review Dr. Faizal's appointment to the IMO, following which a report was released. The report stated that Dr. Faizal's appointment to the IMO as Maldives' Permanent Representative had been approved by a unanimous vote among all members of parliament present at the fifth meeting for the Parliament Committee on National Security & Foreign Relations for the ongoing session of the People's Majlis.
Dr. Farahanaz Faizal presently serves as the High Commissioner of Maldives to the UK, and as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to France and Spain.
