Statistics made public by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) show that out of the 4,889 samples tested in the Maldives on Monday, 125 additional new cases of Covid-19 were detected, bringing the nation's total Covid-19 tally up to 17,953.

Of the 125 new cases reported on Monday, 104 were confirmed from the nation's Covid-19 epicenter in Male' City, with 14 other cases reported from inhabited islands and 6 cases from operational resorts. An additional case was reported from one industrial island, with authorities having tested a total if 4,889 samples for the Covid-19 infection between Sunday and Monday.

As of now, health authorities have tested a total of 466,545 samples for Covid-19 across the Maldives since the start of the pandemic. The Maldives total Covid-19 tally now sits at 17,953 with 2,328 active cases.

The number of active cases of Covid-19 observed in the country increased by 13 between 6pm Sunday and 6pm Monday, and a further 112 persons have recovered from Covid-19 in that period. By sundown on Monday, an a total of 15,560 people have recovered from the infection in the Maldives. 58 people have died in the Maldives from Covid-19, as authorities continue to conduct vaccination efforts for those considered at a high-risk of complications from the virus.

Curfews and vehicle movement restriction orders have been implemented across different cities of the Maldives as authorities attempt to subdue a third wave of Covid-19 infections without initiating lockdowns that will impact economic activities and daily life of citizens nationwide. As the holy month of Ramazan fast approaches, authorities have requested support from all those living in the Maldives, in following the guidelines for Covid-19 control and prevention established across different islands.
