A fire was reported from VARU island resort or VARU by Atmosphere early Tuesday morning.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the fire was reported at the resort carpentry at around 2:48am on Tuesday, and that a Fire and Rescue team was immediately dispatched to the island.
While the fire is to have spread to the staff quarters located next to the carpentry house, it took the Fire and Rescue team a few hours to control the fire which was ultimately extinguished by 5:39am.
MNDF said that the fire had not spread to the three other warehouses located in the area, but that both the carpentry house and staff quarters were destroyed beyond use.
There were no injuries reported in the incident.
This is the third fire reported from an operational resort within the past two weeks; a fire destroyed two rooms beyond use at Olhuveli Beach and Spa Maldives on January 4 while a fire broke out in Taj Exotica Resort and Spa in late December.
