A child has drowned in Fuvahmulah City.
The city council revealed that the 17-year-old went missing on Saturday and the search party found him underwater near the old navigation light area, almost an hour after he went missing.
The unconscious boy was reported to be in critical condition when rushed to the hospital.
Doctors pronounced him dead at around 6:41pm on Saturday.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) received reports of the missing child at around 4:45pm.
The city council told RaajjeMV that the child went missing at shore in the island’s northeast side, after getting caught in a current. The boy drowned in attempts to save another member of his family, from drowning.
