Maldives Covid-19 total has surpassed 14,000 with 52 new Covid-19 cases reported on Friday.

According to the Health Protection Agency(HPA), the 52 cases are from 2,568 samples tested between 6pm Thursday and 6pm Friday.

This pushes the country’s Covid-19 tally to 14,040.

26 out of the 52 cases announced on Friday were detected from the Greater Malé Region, whereas one was discovered on a residential island. Seven cases were from operational resorts, and three from liveaboard vessels.

With 41 additional recoveries recorded by sundown on Friday, the country has observed a total of 13,279 patients having recovered from the virus.

Out of the 687 active coronavirus infections in the country presently, 41 patients remain hospitalized for treatment, which is three less than the previous day.

The pandemic has claimed 49 lives in the island nation thus far. Early Thursday, a 60-year-old Maldivian being treated at the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital passed away due to complications, making it the 49th death from Covid-19.

Public health authorities have collected a total of 336,381 samples for coronavirus testing, since the pandemic surfaced in the island nation from a resort, on March 7. The first cases prompted a nationwide state of public health emergency, just a few days later. Nearly a year later, the state of public health emergency remains after multiple extensions.
