Maldives confirmed 31 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday.

Nightly statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases were confirmed out of the 2,644 samples tested within 24 hours.

A majority of the new cases; 20, were confirmed in the Greater Malé Region, whereas five were reported from operational resorts, four from residential islands and two from liveaboard vessels.

This pushes the total Covid-19 case count in the Maldives, to 13,691.

The new cases include 19 Maldivians -nine men and 10 women-, one each from Belgium, Qatar and Russia as well as two each from United Kingdom, Bangladesh and the United States of America and three from India.

With 27 additional recoveries reported on Tuesday, the total number of recoveries observed in the island nation has reached 13,109, this is a 95.74 percent recovery rate.

The country’s mortality rate is at 0.35 percent, with 48 Covid-19 patients having succumbed to virus complications.

Further, out of the 527 active cases in the country, 388 are in the Greater Malé Region, 39 in outlying atolls, 68 in operational resorts, four in liveaboard vessels, 25 in islands under development and three in industrial islands.

Currently, there are 29 virus-stricken patients hospitalized for treatment.

63 percent of the country’s Covid-19 tally makes up Maldivians, with 8,626 locals having tested positive thus far, further, 3,315 Bangladeshi nationals, 800 nationals from India, 361 Sri Lankans, 162 nationals from Nepal, 54 Russian nationals, 41 Chinese nationals and 332 other nationalities have contracted the virus in Maldives.
