Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has inaugurated the Water and Sewerage System project in Maalhendhoo island of Noonu atoll.

The project was inaugurated by MWSC Chairman Ahmed Mausoom and MP for Kendhikulhudhoo constituency, Ahmed Easa during a ceremony held on Friday.

The company revealed that the equipment and materials required to mobilize the project have been transported to the island and that they are currently working on installing pipes.

Further, MWSC has completed 26 percent of the development of a facility to establish a water plant, under the project.

MWSC is tasked with establishing a main network of a 7.9kilometer-long sewerage system, a pumping line stretching up to one kilometer, establishing two pumping stations, as well as an administrative building and connecting the system to households.

Under the contract, MWSC will also build a main network for the 11.7kilometer-long waterpipes, establish an RO facility building and plant three 250-tonne water tanks.

Water meters will also be planted in households under the project.

MWSC revealed that they will be providing equipment to run the water and sewerage system such as a generator set, vehicles and other important materials.

The project, worth MVR 42.9 million, was contracted to be completed within 22 months.
