Under new eases introduced to Covid-19 restrictions placed, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has decided to permit sports tournaments and events.
In a government gazette publication on Thursday night, signed by the Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru, HPA revealed that sports tournaments and events will be allowed from December 20 onward.
The last time eases to Covid-19 restrictions regarding sports activities and events were introduced was on November 7, when the public health authority permitted contact sports and outdoor sports activities.
Sports clubs have been given the green light to host tournaments and events on Sunday, at a time the new football season kicked off in the Maldives on December 8.
Matches are currently being held at the National Football Stadium and supporters are not allowed inside, under the guidelines provided by HPA.
Further, the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) is also ongoing, in accordance with HPA guidelines and safety instructions.
As such, players from all clubs competing in DPL, along with officials from the clubs were tested for the virus, prior to commencing the league.
