Covid-19: Maldives reports 38 new cases, 29 recoveries

38 additional cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic have been confirmed in the Maldives.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed the new cases out of the 1,718 samples tested from 6pm Monday to 6pm Tuesday.

34 of the new infections were reported from the greater Malé region whereas three were reported from residential islands and one from an operational resort.

This means that the total number of coronavirus cases confirmed in the island nation to date, has risen to 13,049.

Maldives has seen a total of 11,968 recoveries from the fatal infection thus far, with the 29 additional recoveries reported by sundown on Tuesday.

In addition, the public health authorities reveal that there are 1,027 active cases across the island nation, out of which 89 patients are hospitalized for further treatment.

A total of 47 coronavirus-stricken patients have succumbed due to complications in Maldives thus far. The latest death was reported on Tuesday morning, where a 75-year-old Maldivian man passed away while being treated at Hulhumalé Medical Facility.
