Vice President Faislan Naseem toured the site allocated for the proposed Youth Skill Development Centre on Friday.
While the tour was part of his one-day visit to Kalhaidhoo island of Laamu atoll, the VP also spoke with the stakeholders tasked with the development of the centre.
Minister at the President’s Office Ahmed Sameer, Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail and senior officials from the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, National Drug Agency (NDA) and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) accompanied the Vice President Naseem on the trip.
The vice president also toured the island, and examined the locations allocated to develop utilities and other support infrastructure required for the centre.
Through the day, the vice president held discussions with relevant stakeholders, which were focused on the different programmes to be offered at the centre, as well as the expected outcomes of those programmes.
During these discussions, Naseem highlighted the importance of equipping the nation’s youth “with the knowledge and skills required to be self-sufficient, successful and productive individuals”.
He noted that the proposed training facility, with a capacity to accommodate 500 students, will also help shape the participants through training and apprenticeship programmes and promote entrepreneurship.
