Maldives reports 94 new Covid-19 cases, mostly foreigners

More than half of the new coronavirus infections reported on Friday are foreigners.

While 94 new cases were announced, these include 38 locals and 56 foreigners. The cases were confirmed from the 1,678 samples tested within 24 hours.

49 of the cases were detected from the capital region while the remaining are from other islands or resorts.

Maldives has recorded a total of 12,546 Covid-19 cases since March.

22 additional recoveries were reported on Friday, bringing total recoveries to 11,497.

While the country has seen 45 deaths from the virus, there are 997 active Covid-19 cases currently.

There are 17 active cases of the virus across 13 residential islands as well as a total of 200 cases in 27 resorts; the include 42 tourists and 158 staff.

80 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals, seven more than the previous day.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has expressed concern over the recent rise in daily Covid-19 cases.
