Maldives confirmed 29 new cases of the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s cases were confirmed out of the 1,176 samples tested within the past 24 hours.

Seven of the new cases were confirmed in residential islands and resorts, whereas the remaining 22 were detected from the greater Malé region.

The new cases include 17 Maldivians and 12 foreigners and have pushed the country’s total Covid-19 case count to 12,059.

Maldives has observed a total of 11,199 recoveries from the fatal infection thus far, which means that 17 additional patients had recovered from the virus by 6pm, Wednesday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s statistics reveal that there are currently 812 active cases of the virus, out of which 16 are in residential islands and 194 are in tourist resorts.

Currently, there are 222 Covid-19 patients receiving treatment at isolation facilities and 49 patients hospitalized for treatment.

HPA revealed that there are 16 coronavirus cases across 11 residential islands out of which 13 are foreigners and three are local cases.

There is a total of 194 active cases across 27 resorts. As such, the number of Covid-19 cases among resort employees has reached 140. There are also active infections among 54 tourists. These numbers are unchanged from the previous day.
