Ministry of Tourism has suspended the operations license of Kandima Maldives in Dhaalu atoll, as authorities investigate negligence claims against the resort.
While a 60-year-old local employee, Adam Naseer, in Kandima Maldives passed away on October 30, he tested positive for Covid-19 in tests carried out following death.
The employee’s family has accused the resort’s management of negligence, including refusal to allow him consultation with a doctor despite multiple requests despite exhibiting Covid-19 like symptoms.
Director-General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru, has since ordered investigations into the case. Both the police and Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) are probing the matter.
While the death has also sparked public criticism, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) previously revealed inconsistencies in the information provided by Kandima Maldives in relation to the case.
A team from HEOC traveled to the resort earlier this month. Kandima Maldives denies all negligence accusations.
The resort has become the largest cluster of cases outside the capital city, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed at least 60 positive cases on the island.
An emergency motion has been submitted to the People's Majlis as well, over Adam Naseer's death.
