Maldives confirmed 71 new cases of the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic, on Thursday.
Nightly statistics released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases include 15 Maldivians and 56 foreigners.
Maldives Covid-19 tally currently sits at 11,893 with this development.
A majority of the new cases were confirmed in the greater Malé region. As such, HPA detected 60 cases in the Maldives capital whereas the remaining 11 were detected from residential islands and resorts.
Thursday’s cases were confirmed from the 1,758 samples tested between 6pm Wednesday and 6pm Thursday.
Further, the public health authority also confirmed 19 additional recoveries from the virus by sundown on Thursday, which pushed the total number of recoveries from the infection, to 11,010.
Maldives currently has 838 active cases of the virus.
Out of this, 185 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities and 56 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment. This is four patients more than the previous day.
Statistics go on to reveal that there are 15 active coronavirus cases across 13 residential islands, including five Maldivians and 10 foreigners.
The number of active coronavirus cases among resort workers dropped from 127 to 120 by Thursday, there are active cases across 30 resorts, including 52 tourists.
