The government of India has decided to bring more eases for Maldivians travelling to the neighboring country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the neighboring country has announced the decision to ease more measures for Maldivians travelling, despite the country’s border being closed for international travel.

On Sunday, Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid and High Commissioner of India to Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir sat down for discussions regarding the eased restrictions.

FM Shahid took to Twitter following the meeting, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

As such, it was revealed that India has eased visas for Maldivian students, their guardians as well as business owners.

The government currently issues medical visas for Maldivians who wish to travel for treatment, under a special guideline and the governments of both countries are working to strengthen people-to-people contact during the new normal.

Those who wish to travel to India for educational and business purposes have been asked to acquire the required permit to travel, from the ministry’s Consular Department.
