Authorities are to conduct a post-mortem examination on the local man found dead at sea earlier on Friday.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed the decision to conduct the autopsy test which is followed by uncertainties surrounding the man’s death. As such, they are yet to confirm whether the death was by natural causes, or not.

A message to media reads that the body has been taken to the mortuary in order to prepare for the post-mortem examination.

Police received reports of the dead body drifting in the ocean near Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), at around 10:40am on Friday.

The deceased was identified as a Maldivian man, aged 31. The body was taken to IGMH, police revealed earlier.

While no further details including the cause of his death and his identity have been disclosed, the case is currently under further investigations and RaajjeMV understands that the deceased is a native of Vaadhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
