Maziya Sports and Recreation and Club Eagles will face each other in the FA Charity Shield 2020 to be held to initiate the start of the new football season.
While the charity match is normally held between the champions of the Dhivehi Premier League and FA Cup of the previous season, the change was brought due to the cancellation of the FA Cup following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hence, the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) decided to hold the match between last season’s Dhivehi Premier League champions, Maziya, and runner-ups, Club Eagles.
This will be the latter’s first time playing a FA Charity Shield match.
Eagles’ has also secured a spot in next year’s FA Cup playoffs, following this year’s cancellation; also a first for the club.
While FAM had changed the Charity Shield match a home and away game last year, it said that only one match will be played this year.
The association is working to start the season on December 8.
While Maziya recently resumed training, Club Eagles is expected to do so on October 1.
TC Sports Club won last year’s FA Charity Shield.
