The Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services attended a total of 106 cases regarding violence against children during September.

Latest statistics publicized by the ministry on Thursday, reveal that a majority of cases relating to children were sexual abuse cases.

As such, out of the 106 cases regarding violence against children, 44 cases involving sexual abuse were attended by the ministry during the previous month.

A total of 238 cases were received by the ministry in September, overall.

Other forms of violence against children include 29 cases of negligence, 16 cases of physical abuse, seven cases of witness to domestic violence, five cases of emotional abuse, two cases of victims of cyber bullying, two cases of victims of bullying and harassment and one case of exploitation.

Further, the ministry received 10 cases regarding behavioral problems in children which included four cases of children refusing to attend schools. The cases also include three children having run away from home.

Under the child rights violation category, the ministry attended to 10 cases out of which seven were cases where parents refused to vaccinate children, two cases of parents having denied birth registration and one case where parents refused access to healthcare and medical attention.

Two cases of children being in conflict with the law were also reported to the ministry during September.

In addition, the ministry also attended 24 cases involving family issues, which included 15 cases of custody, six cases of children maintenance and three regarding parenting issues.

Statistics go on to reveal that a total of 46 cases regarding violence based on gender and domestic violence, were reported as well.

A majority of these cases included physical abuse cases, at 29. The remaining were eight cases of emotional abuse, three of sexual abuse, three of negligence, two of controlling behavior and one case of economic and financial abuse.

21 cases out of the 32 cases reported under the category involving care and support for elderly and individuals with disabilities, were of care support for the latter. The remaining 11 were cases of care and support for the elderly.

The ministry went on to reveal that eight cases where children showed self-harm and suicidal behavior were also reported the past month.
