Over 100 kilograms of illicit drugs have been seized in an operation in the capital region.
Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed said that the over 100 kilograms of heroin and meth were seized from a boat nearby the capital’s suburban district Hulhumale’ on Monday morning.
The special operation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) together with the Drug Intelligence Unit and the Marine Police.
Noting that the “social and economic impact from narcotic drug trafficking is high”, the commissioner stressed that they “will continue efforts to disrupt the drug trade”.
This is the second major drug bust this month, 98.6 kilograms of drugs were confiscated in an operation in southernmost Addu City on October 3. A total of 16 people linked to the case were arrested, while some have now been released, five have been remanded pending outcome of trial.
