A fire has broke out in a house in Guraidhoo island of Thaa atoll, leaving it uninhabitable.
The fire broke out in Gaadhiffushi house of Guraidhoo on Friday morning.
The island council’s president, Ali Rasheed told RaajjeMV that the incident was reported to the council at around 11:35am on Friday. He reported that all of the furnishings and everything inside the house had been destroyed in the fire including utensils, books and uniforms.
The residents of the house, a woman and her daughter under 18 years of age, were not home at the time of the incident, revealed the council.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) officers stationed on the island had doused the flames with the joint efforts from the island residents and Rasheed cited the police having revealed that the fire was caused by an electricity shortage.
A forensic team has launched further investigations into the fire incident.
The fire has left the house uninhabitable, in light of which the council is in discussion to arrange accommodation for the residents of the house.
