The Criminal Court has collected witness testimonies from three individuals, in connection to the arson attack on privately-run television station, RaajjeTV.
Mohamed Meead has been charged with terrorism, in connection to the attack.
During Thursday’s hearing regarding the charges raised against Meead, three individuals were presented for witness testimonies.
The presiding judge over the case revealed that they will be collecting secret testimonies in the next hearing, adding that the case will be scheduled at the earliest. A specific date for the next hearing has not been disclosed.
A group of masked men broke down the iron gates and door of RaajjeTV’s studio building in the early hours of October 8, 2013 and torched the studio, located in the Queen of the Night building. The station incurred tremendous losses, totaling MVR 11.65 million.
Authorities concluded investigations into the arson attack and forwarded the case for prosecution on January 7, 2015.
While it has been seven years since the arson attack, RaajjeTV is still awaiting justice. Although CCTV footage shows five masked men, only one of the suspects is being tried.
