Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested five foreigners who attempted to smuggle drugs, hidden inside their bodies.

One of the arrested is a Kenyan woman, Jedida Anduku Kingu, 27.

The woman arrived in the country on September 29 and was detained by the Maldives Customs Service following suspicions of drug smuggling. The woman was taken to the hospital in collaboration with the police.

52 bullets filled with suspected narcotics were retrieved from the woman’s body.

On Monday, the Criminal Court remanded the woman by 15 days.

The woman was among the five foreigners who were detained by customs officials after their failed attempt to smuggle drugs hidden inside their bodies.

The remaining four are four Pakistani nationals who arrived in the country on September 11, aged 22, 30, 34 and 41 respectively.

Drugs seized from them weighed 791 grams and have a street value of MVR 632,800.

Criminal Court remanded the four Pakistani men until the end of their trials.

Police revealed that the cases are under further investigations.
