Teachers play one of the most important roles in life achievements, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The president made this remark in a Twitter post in commemoration of teacher's day, celebrated annually on October 5. As such, he stated that "our success in life" owes teachers "deep gratitude".

He added that teachers are the ones who have had lasting positive impacts on who we have become today, besides our parents.

Solih went on to express gratitude to all of his teachers and every single teacher who continues to "light the way for young generations".

In commemoration of the day, the Ministry of Education also extended felicitations to educators.

Speaker of the People's Majlis Mohamed Nasheed also extended greetings of the day, highlighting that the crucial role teachers play, has been underscored during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, more than ever.

Nasheed took to Twitter on Monday, where he praised teachers for their hard work.

The pandemic has also shed light on the importance of children attending schools so that they have bright and happy futures, said Nasheed.

It must be noted that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, schools across the nation had been closed and education, halted, interrupting the flow of lectures and school sessions for months. However, online school sessions are being held uninterruptedly.

The Covid-19 pandemic has posed a number of challenges to students and the education ministry has assured that work is underway to strengthen the connectivity to ensure the education system.
