Following Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah having taken oath as the new Emir of Kuwait, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended felicitations.

Expressing his certainty that Kuwait will continue to prosper and strengthen the legacy of the late Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Solih offered condolences to the Al-Sabah family and to the government and people of Kuwait following the passing of the late Emir, who was a true leader and visionary, whose legacy will endure for years to come.

In his message to the new Kuwaiti leader, the president also expressed hope that the excellent relations between the two countries will strengthen under the new Emir’s leadership.

Sheikh Nawaf, who was crowned prince of Kuwait in February 2006, took oath before the National Assembly on Wednesday and is the 16th Emir of Kuwait.

International media outlets report that the newly sworn in Emir had vowed to carry out his responsibilities to his best capacity and reiterated commitment to the constitution and democracy of Kuwait.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah passed away on Tuesday, aged 91. The presidency announced that the Maldives flag will be flown half-staff for three days, in honor of the late Emir.

The late Kuwaiti leader was recognized as an accomplished statement and diplomat of high standing, recognized globally for the pivotal role played during a lifetime of “resolving regional tensions and settling disputes.”
