President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Wednesday appointed Dr. Hussain Niyaz, Farzana Zahir and Aminath Shabeena as High Commissioner to India, High Commissioner to Pakistan and Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, respectively.
An accreditation ceremony was held at the President’s Office in the morning, during which the president presented their letters of appointment to the three.
Niyaz previously served as the Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), as well as in various capacities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He holds a doctorate on Demography and Development from The University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand.
Farzana Zahir previously served as the Joint Secretary for India and SAARC Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and had served in various capacities at the ministry. Farzana holds a Master’s Degree in Development Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
Shabeena last served as the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has also served at the ministry in various other capacities. She received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of the West of England, Bristol, UK, which was completed at Villa College, Malé.
The three are among the five individuals approved as foreign envoys to the respective countries by the People’s Majlis, in July.
