Maldives reported an additional 137 cases of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on Monday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that eight out of the new cases were reported from outlying islands by 6pm, Monday and that the remaining 129 cases were reported in the Greater Malé Region.

This has pushed the country’s Covid-19 case count to 7,804.

Further, the authority also reported 119 more recoveries on Monday, with which the total number of recovered patients has risen to 5,155.

Maldives currently has 2,615 active cases out of which 172 hospitalized are hospitalized for treatment. This is nine patients less than the previous day, where 181 patients were hospitalized for Covid-19 treatment.

HPA also reported that there are 1,451 Covid-19 patients receiving treatment at isolation facilities.

While entering the third phase of the lockdown ease plan in July led to a major surge in Covid-19 cases being reported on a daily basis, the infection has spread to outlying islands as well. As such, there are active cases of the pandemic currently in 31 residential islands and 15 resorts.

The government continues to assure that the safety of tourists will be ensured, since the country reopened borders for international travel. Currently, 14 tourists and 18 resort workers are being treated for Covid-19 in the island nation.
