Covid-19: Maldives reports 109 new cases, 52 recoveries

Maldives Covid-19 tally has crossed 7,500 with the 109 additional cases of the infection reported by 6pm Saturday.

The country’s Covid-19 total has risen to 7,578, reported the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

As such, three out of the total Covid-19 cases were reported from outlying atolls whereas the remaining 106 cases were confirmed from the outbreak’s epicenter, the Greater Malé Region.

The new cases reported on Saturday include 80 Maldivians, 24 Bangladeshi nationals, two each from India and Sri Lanka and one national from Nepal.

Further, the authority reported 52 recoveries from the virus, which pushes the total number of recovered Covid-19 patients to 4,925.

While the new coronavirus has taken 28 lives in the Maldives since it surfaced on March 7, there are currently 2,619 active cases in the island nation.

The number of hospitalized patients dropped from 192 to 184 by Saturday, with the number of patients acquiring treatment at isolation facilities currently sitting at 1,482.
