The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is to be summoned to parliament’s committee on independent institutions regarding its report on the Health Ministry’s Covid-19 related expenditure.
While the Auditor General’s Office has since publicized its compliance audit report on the ministry’s Covid-19 related expenditure, the committee made the decision to summon ACC officials over the contradictions in both reports.
ACC officials have been summoned to a committee meeting scheduled for October, and the committee aims to complete all work related to the matter by October 29; the meeting is set for October as Majlis will go into a month-long recess next Monday.
As per the Auditor General’s report, there is possible corruption in the procurement of ventilators from Dubai-based Executors General Trading.
Following the publication of the report, it was uncovered that ACC officials had made contradictory remarks during a previous committee meeting.
Hence, Speaker and former President, Mohamed Nasheed had requested the independent institutions’ committee to look into the matter.
The committee is to summon ACC officials on October 21 as well, in relation to a letter sent to the People’s Majlis by the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office. In addition, PG office officials are to be questioned at this meeting as well, and member of presidential commission on corruption and asset recovery.
