Parliament’s committee on economic affairs has approved five out of the eight nominees forwarded for the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) board.
Applications for the vacant seats were opened from 6-13 July, following the resignation of one member as well as the expiry of three other members’ terms.
While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had forwarded the names of eight nominees, those approved by economic affairs’ committee are Mumthaz Abdul Rasheed, Leena Mohamed Zahir Hussain, Husham Waheed, Ali Irfan and Aishath Asha Ali.
The amendment to the Tax Administration Act introduced last week, reconstituted the composition of the governing board of MIRA; the board now comprises of a total of seven members; five appointed by the president as well as commissioner general of taxation and deputy.
The chairperson of MIRA’s board of directors is appointed by the Minister of Finance; the current chair of the board is the ministry’s Chief Finance Budget Executive Ahmed Saruvash Adam.
