A man who was arrested under accusations of sexually assaulting a minor, has been remanded.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they received the report of a child falling victim to sexual assault from an island in one of Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaal and Vaavu atolls on August 17.

The 59-year-old Maldivian man was arrested under a court order late Monday.

The court remanded the man by 15 days, at a remand facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.

The case is under further investigation, assured the police institution.
