Following the implementation of amendments to the Academic Calendar due to the situation revolving around the Covid-19 pandemic, the government is set to commence the second term of the ongoing academic year in January 2021.

The Ministry of Education on Thursday publicized the ending date of the academic year as well as the beginning of the new academic year for 2021.

According to the publication, the ongoing academic year’s first term is set to end in December 2020 and the second term will commence on January 10, 2021.

The second term of the ongoing academic year will end on June 24.

Due to delays following the situation of the global pandemic, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali had earlier revealed that schools will open for the new academic year during August 10, 2021.

The government had closed schools and educational institutions for a period of four months before reopening them on July 1.

The green light was given in Covid-19-free islands as well as for some grades in the capital.

However, the government once again closed schools due to a sudden surge in cases following the implementation of the lockdown ease plan and classes are currently being conducted online.
