On Friday, Maldives reported 89 new infections of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a Twitter post providing the latest updates of the Covid-19 situation in the island nation, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the 89 new cases include 58 Maldivians, 19 Bangladeshi nationals, six Indian nationals, two each from the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka as well as one each for Egypt and the United States of America.
With this development, the country’s total Covid-19 case count has reached 4,769.
83 out of the cases reported on Friday were from the Greater Malé Region while the remaining six were reported from outlying atolls.
Further, Maldives also reported 29 recoveries from the infection on Friday, pushing the total number of recovered individuals to 2,754.
While the infection has taken 19 lives in the Maldives thus far, the country has 1,996 active cases currently, out of which 129 are hospitalized with 1,470 remaining in isolation facilities.
HPA further noted that by 6pm Friday, there were active cases in seven resorts, this includes six tourists as well as nine staff members.

- Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani atoll,
- Maafushi in Kaafu atoll,
- Fulidhoo in Vaavu atoll,
- Hulhudhuffaaru in Raa atoll,
- Kamadhoo in Baa atoll,
- Ihavandhoo in Haa Alif atoll,
- Filladhoo in Haa Alif atoll and
- Fuvahmulah City
