Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun investigating the sexual assault on a woman inside a pharmacy in capital Malé City.
Police have confirmed that investigations are underway, after having received the report on Thursday night.
Some local media outlets have cited the victim having stated that the accused perpetrator in the case is an Indian national, working in a pharmacy in the capital city.
Police revealed that no arrests have been made in connection to the case yet.
At a time the issue of increasing sexual assault and harassment cases have been churning public outcry, the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has launched an awareness campaign under the name “Geveshi Gulhun”.
Citizens have been staging protests, voicing against the heinous crime and calling on authorities to bring the offenders to justice.
