The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has revealed that there are 92 Covid-19 patients currently hospitalized for treatment.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s dashboard reveals that 93 Covid-19 patients had been admitted at the hospital for treatment, before the 19th Covid-19 death was confirmed on Tuesday morning. The deceased is an 80-year-old Maldivian woman who was hospitalized in the Hulhumalé Medical Facility’s ICU.

This is a record number of patients receiving treatment at hospitals thus far since the pandemic surfaced in the Maldives on March 7 and comes at a time authorities have been stressing on the increasing number of patients requiring treatment at hospitals.

HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq revealed that six individuals were receiving treatment in ICU. Five out of them were at Hulhumalé Medical Facility and one of them passed away on Tuesday morning. The other patient is at the ICU of the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital.

Dr. Nazla further revealed that two patients had been placed on ventilator support.

86 Covid-19 patients are being treated at Hulhumalé Medical Facility, said the spokesperson.

Further, two individuals are also receiving treatment for the infection at Covid-19 centers stationed at Eydhafushi island in Baa atoll and Funadhoo island in Shaviyani atoll.

129 additional cases reported on Monday pushed the Covid-19 case count in the island nation to 4,293.

27 recoveries from the virus were also reported on Monday, pushing the total number of recovered Covid-19 patients to 2,670. Maldives currently has 1,490 active cases of the virus..
