The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the dredging of the new channel’s entrance of the project in Maabaidhoo island of Laamu atoll.
Highlighting that the work on the island harbor’s new channel is well underway, MTCC revealed via Twitter that the project has reached 79 percent progress.
As such, the closing of the existing harbor channel and dredging of the new channel’s entrance is currently complete
The project’s breakwater construction component is currently underway, with 63 percent completion, revealed the contractor.

MTCC has also begun the work on casting a bridge slab under the scope of the project.
The company is expecting to complete the project during the first week of the following month.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC is tasked with channel dredging operations measuring a total of 17،503.96 cubic meters.
In addition, MTCC is required to construct a breakwater measuring 253 meters, a submerge breakwater measuring 19 meters as well as a 83-meter revetment.
A beacon installation and bridge construction are also included under the contract for the project.
Contracted to the company by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for a value of MVR 16.4 million, the project was mobilized on November 2, last year.
