Maldives reported 67 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday.

Authorities said that the 67 patients were confirmed, out of the 1,602 samples tested within 24 hours. 236 samples were tested the previous day, out of which 47 tested positive for the virus.

The cases announced on Sunday include 52 Maldivians, 14 Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian national.

This brings the country's Covid-19 total to 2,731.

Further, 16 additional recoveries have been reported. This brings the total recoveries to 2,284.

While the country has confirmed 13 deaths to Covid-19, there are currently 419 active cases.

There has been an increase in the Covid-19 cases reported, with authorities saying a number of the cases are being detected from government offices which reopened on July 5 after months of closure following the pandemic.

The offices were reopened as the country entered the third phase of lockdown easing, on July 1.

Further, health officials have expressed concern over the increase in cases which in turn has led to rise in patients admitted at hospital.
