The Independent Institutions Committee of the People’s Majlis has approved the dismissal of four Civil Service Commission (CSC) members.
Votes were asked individually from members present during Monday’s meeting and seven out of the nine members present, voted to impeach the four members.
The committee earlier passed to dismiss four members of the commission, citing inability to maintain responsibilities.
However, the report compiled by the committee was repealed. On June 2, the committee decided to remove all five members, including Fathimath Amira, who is the current exception.
The members being impeached are:
- President, Dr. Ali Shameem
- Vice President, Shaheed Mohamed
- Ibrahim Shaheeq
- Zakariyya Hussain
MP for south-Galolhu constituency, Meekail Naseem, who chaired the meeting, stated that Amira addressed a letter to the committee in response to the impeachment motion against her. Further details of her letter were not disclosed.
During Monday’s meeting, members noted that there is no reason to remove Amira from the commission. Five out of the nine members at the committee passed to make an exception for Amira, as proposed by south-Henveiru constituency Hussain Shaheem.
President Shameem is accused of being active during the Presidential campaign of incarcerated former president Abdulla Yameen.
