Abdulla Shareef has been appointed as the new Commissioner General of the Maldives Customs Service.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the appointment on Tuesday and Shareef was presented with his letter of appointment at the President’s Office, during a special ceremony.
The new Commissioner General of Customs took oath of office in front of Supreme Court Justice Aisha Sujoon Mohamed.
With the new appointment, Shareef will be serving at the state-ministerial level position.
Shareef holds a master’s degree in customs administration.
Prior to his appointment, Shareef served as the Deputy Commissioner of Customs and has been providing services at the authority for the past 27 years. He acted as the head of the authority since April, following the death of Commissioner General of Customs Ahmed Numan.
Numan, native to Addu city Hithadhoo, was appointed to the post during December 2018 and passed away in a hospital of Bangalore, India on April 7. He was undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment in the neighboring country for eight months, before he passed away.
