Maldives repatriated over 500 foreigners on Tuesday.

According to the Maldives Immigration department, a total of 505 foreigners were evacuated from the Maldivians, including Bangladeshis, Indians and Nepalese nationals.

Evacuated during the exercise were:

  • 200 Bangladeshi nationals
  • 156 Indian nationals and
  • 149 Nepal nationals

A total of 2,800 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from the Maldives thus far and over 2,000 Indian nationals have been repatriated through the massive repatriation exercise launched by the Indian government to evacuate their nationals stranded in several countries across the globe, via Indian navy ships, as well as flights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the total number of undocumented Bangladeshi nationals repatriated from the Maldives was at 2,100 by Friday.

Thousands of Bangladeshi nationals are being repatriated from the Maldives under the collaborative efforts from the Ministry of Economic Development and the Bangladeshi High Commission in Maldives after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that over 1,500 undocumented migrant workers will be repatriated from the Maldives.

The highest number of confirmed cases in the Maldives have been of Bangladeshi nationals, at 1,102 which is 52.63% of the total case count; 2,094.

The Covid-19 dashboard also shows that 194 Indians alongside 38 Nepalese nationals in the Maldives have tested positive for Covid-19.
