Three arrested in alcohol, drug busts in three regions

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has made a number of arrests during drug and alcohol busts in different regions of the Maldives.

Two men were arrested from Addu City throughout two separate operations conducted by the officers stationed in the southernmost city as well as the police intelligence unit.

Arrested following tip-offs were a 30-year-old and a 55-year-old, both Maldivian men.

The 30-year-old was arrested from Maradhoo district for being in possession of alcohol on June 9 and officers confiscated two bottles filled with suspected alcohol and the equipment and supplies required to make it.

The 55-year-old was arrested from Hulhumeedhoo district on June 8 and officers confiscated 13 rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics and a bottle of alcohol on him.

The man has since been remanded by the Hulhudhoo Magistrate Court for a 15-day period, to be kept in a facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In addition, an operation was provoked by a tip-off in Kudahuvadhoo island of Dhaal atoll where officers stationed in the island jointly with the police intel arrested a 36-year-old Maldivian man on June 8.

The man was in possession of seven packets filled with suspected narcotics.

Further, in an operation conducted by the Gaaf Alif Villingili Police Station and police intel on June 9, officers confiscated narcotics hidden inside the woodlands of Villingili island in Gaaf Alif atoll.

This was followed by a tip-off and officers confiscated 347 pieces of cellophane filled with suspected narcotics.

No arrests have been made in connection to the case thus far.

All of these cases are under further investigation.
